Where can I find/buy Bakers' Magic Gluten free flour?

Bakers' Magic Gluten free flour used to be known as The Real Bread Mix manufactured by Springhill FarmThey are still manufacturing it under the new name but the online sales will now be through this website. Orders for trade and independent supermarkets will still be handled by Springhill Farm. .

Do I need a bread machine to make bread with Bakers' Magic Gluten free flour?

No you do not need a bread machine to make bread with Bakers' Magic Gluten free flour. I prefer not to use one. I make the best bread in my Thermomix. A Thermomix uses a fast cutting action to mix ingredients a bit like a super kitchen whiz. You do not need a Thermomix either, I have made the bread using a stab blender.

Is it bad for me to eat gluten free if I am not a coeliac?

No - remember everything in moderation.

Are there any disadvantages of a gluten free diet?

That would depend on what you see as a disadvantage. On a purely dietary level there are no disadvantages as long as you eat a balanced diet.

Can I interchange a gluten free flour for wheat flour in a ratio of 1:1?

No. Unfortunately it's not that simple. Different flours have different properties which will affect the baked product. This fact is one of the reasons I created the Guide to Gluten Free Baking.

Are you going to write a cookbook?

In the beginning that was my intention however after much consideration I have decided that at the moment a website is a better option. It gives me the ability to continually update the site with new and exciting recipes. It gives you easy access.

Can I buy Decadent Alternatives biscuit range?

No. However if you are a registered member you can access the recipes for Decadent Alternatives biscuit range.

Is Decadent Alternatives going to manufacture again?

No. Between the cost of production and my health the answer is a resounding no.

What is the best way to ask a question?

You can either ask a question on our Contact Us page on this website or post a question on our Facebook page (Decadent Alternatives = Gluten Free Baking).

How many new recipes will you be posting in a year?

My aim is to post at least 3 recipes/month. Most of these will use Bakers' Magic Gluten free flour. The number posted will depend on a number of things; the weather - my house is not air conditioned so on really hot days I don't bake, my health - if I catch a cold I may be sick for 2 weeks & I don't usually cook during this period, school holidays - during these times I find myself baking old favourites etc.

What can I view without having a subscription/membership?

Basically you can view all the information with regards to the use of Bakers' Magic Gluten free flour, the information contained in The Alternatives and the What's Cooking Blog. You will be able to view the names of all recipes but will only be able to access the ones that have a *FREE* beside them.

Are you available for cooking classes?

Watch our Facebook page and the What's Cooking Blog for updates.

Can I give a years subscription as a gift?

Yes, you certainly can.

Can I share your recipes?

Any of the recipes that are available without a subscription can (should :)) be shared. Recipes available through subscription are for personal use only. Please read our terms and conditions for further clarification.

Why did you start making gluten free products?

My interest was sparked when a friend's child in our mothers' group was diagnosed (2000) with anaphylactic allergies to wheat, dairy, eggs, nuts & soy (plus a few others). Our mothers' group would meet weekly for morning tea & I wanted to take things that everyone could eat.

What is the difference between Decadent Alternatives recipes and other gluten free recipes?

In some cases there will not be a lot of difference. In others the end product will be vastly different in taste & texture. One of the reasons for the difference is I use a flour mixture appropriate for the end product. Another is I am not a coeliac myself so I can firstly make & taste the product made with wheat & then convert the recipe into a gluten free one.

You have used an alternative I don't like can I use a different one?

It will depend on the recipe & what you are substituting. For example substituting date sugar into a biscuit recipe that calls for caster sugar will probably be good. But if you substitute it to make meringues it probably wont.

Will you take suggestions of what recipe you'll make next?

I would love to. Suggestions can be left on Decadent Alternatives Facebook page or in our comments box (What's Cooking).
